The first thing I can remember realizing about myself is that I like to laugh- with others, because of others, and as my wife will attest because of something funny I said (I will shamelessly admit, I have always thought I was funny, whether everyone else agrees is often of too little concern to me :). I try to keep myself surrounded with things I find genuinely funny. Right now, my favorites are Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me: The NPR News Quiz, This is That from the CBC, and Keeping up Appearances
I grew up along the Wasatch Front in Northern Utah. My dad introduced me at an early age to most things outdoors and I've been hooked ever since. You'll notice a lot of my blog posts draw on things that I have learned from being in and observing nature. I LOVE hiking, I'm a wannabe mountain biker (you have to own a mountain bike to do that, I have aspirations), I like to think I swim like a fish, and camping and cooking outside are some of my favorite pastimes.
I have been married for 8 years and I'm loving building my story with my family more and more the further we get into it.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and I entered the field knowing I wanted to treat sexual addiction. That journey is a story I have yet to write, the short of it is this: I had no clue what I was getting into and thankfully I have had some really great mentors help me to dive deep into my own story and into the fascinating and meaning-filled realm of human sexuality, trauma, and resilience. I have worked in a variety of social service settings ranging from grant sponsored after school programs to providing direct therapy to office managing and program development. The latter two fulfill a lot of my control needs- if I could pick a dream job, I would be paid ridiculous amounts of money to just organize files, ideas, and spaces- but the ridiculous amounts of money is really important to that, I don't like doing those things for myself quite as much.
I would be surprised if what I have written so far holds anyone's attention so if you made it this far, you get the lighting round about me: I like food, especially grilled meats. I'm an audio-book-aholic, so much that I think I may have destroyed my ability to read the written word. I'm not a fan of political extremes, this country's current state of affairs TERRIFIES me (this is probably as political as I will get, so if you are looking for that, shop elsewhere). My wife helps me buy most of my clothes and consults me on hair choices- this is a really good thing, I didn't know that looking presentable and somewhat stylish was a thing before we met. I think yard work can be fun, in a twisted sort of way. And finally, if it has sugar in it, I probably like it and already ate too much of it today.
